Tenth Sunday After Pentecost

This Sunday, our Hebrew Scripture lesson features a wrestling match between Jacob and the
shadowy figure of the night, whom we assume to be the divine. Jacob seems to be always
striving, fighting, and tricking his way to his desired outcome.

discern what we can learn from the Bible’s infamous trickster. Rather than deceit, getting our
own way, and winning for ourselves, Jacob offers us views of intelligence and intentionality.
